New York City Aikido welcomes beginners (including those with no martial arts experience) as members. We ask that all prospective members observe at least one class — please contact us before you come.
Because of our dojo size, beginners receive individualized attention of the instructor and other experienced practitioners. Beginners will be shown how to fall and roll safely, according to their readiness, become comfortable with contact, and practice basic attacks. As all classes are mixed level, newcomers are given the opportunity to develop at their own pace, but are also sufficiently challenged to facilitate their growth.
Given the effort required to introduce beginners to training aikido, we request that prospective members maintain a seriousness and commitment to training.
