New York City Aikido is an organization established for the purposes of education in, practice in and dissemination of the Japanese martial art of aikido (合気道) developed by founder Morihei Ueshiba (O Sensei). NYCA holds empty hand and aiki weapons (staff and sword) training sessions in midtown Manhattan, near Penn Station. Our aikido dojo follows the path of teachings of Mitsugi Saotome shihan, a direct student of the Founder, and Hiroshi Ikeda shihan.
“Aikido is not philosophy. Aikido is the true expression and revelation of the everlasting functions of the universe. Thus is derived the goal of Takemusu Aiki — experiencing the mechanisms of nature’s truths in training and applying the theories in our daily life.” Mitsugi Saotome, Aikido and the Harmony of Nature (dedication page).
NYCA is affiliated with Aikido Schools of Ueshiba (ASU) and Aikikai Foundation (Aikikai Hombu Dojo).
